On Sunday night, May 19, 2013, 6:30 pm at the Channel Inn, 650 Water St. S.W., there is a tribute to Angel Irene, Executive Director of Vida Senior Center. Here is Angel’s message to the community. Thanks to our good friend Jose Gutierrez for distributing this message to us.
Thanks everyone for coming tonight. My name is Jose Gutierrez and I am, at this time, with you on behalf of my friend, Angel Luis Irene, who could not be here tonight. “Los CentroAmericanos” Ceramic Exhibit

at the Museum of the American Indian

The Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian and the Smithsonian Latino Center in Washington, D.C., present "Cerámica de los Ancestros: Central America's Past Revealed," a new major bilingual exhibition opening today!. This exhibition illuminates Central America's vibrant ancestral heritage. For thousands of years, Central America has been home to complex civilizations, each with unique, sophisticated ways of life, value systems and arts. The ceramics these diverse communities left behind, combined with recent archaeological discoveries, help tell the stories of these cultures and their achievements. The exhibition examines seven regions representing distinct Central American cultural areas that are today part of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. The exhibition will be open through Feb. 1, 2015, in the third level W. Richard West Jr. Contemporary Arts Gallery.

Announcing a plethora of activities for the upcoming cultural season the new Spanish Ambassador Ramon Gil-Casares and his cultural attaché Guillermo Corral provided a brief review of scheduled events in this area, across the country and in Canada at the Ambassador’s sumptuous Foxhall Road residence on the evening of Monday, February 25^th. The reception was attended by over 100 friends of the embassy along with local and international journalists. Activities have been summed up in a booklet, “2013 Spanish Cultural Program, U.S. & Canada” and on their website www.spainculture.us.
